Sheriff Bilal on Philly Power 100 List

Congratulations to Sheriff Bilal for being named on the @cityandstatepa Philly Power 100 list!
#PhillySheriff

The power in the sheriff’s office lies with overseeing sheriff’s sales, enforcing court orders like tax liens and securing courthouses, among other things. Although Rochelle Bilal’s short time in office has not been without controversy, she did break barriers when she was sworn in in January. Bilal, a 27-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, became the first African American woman ever elected sheriff in the 181-year history of the office. Bilal previously was the secretary of the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP and served as president of the Guardian Civic League in Philadelphia. She retired from the Philadelphia Police Department in 2013.
