Sheriff Rochelle Bilal Commends Deputies and Partners for Commitment During DC33 Work Stoppage

For Immediate Release ~ July 9, 2025

PHILADELPHIA — Today, Sheriff Rochelle Bilal held a press conference to thank the deputies and staff of the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office, as well as partner agencies, for their professionalism and dedication throughout the eight-day DC33 work stoppage.

Beginning on July 1, the Sheriff’s Office served as the lead law enforcement agency to enforce the citywide injunction issued by the court. Deputies worked around the clock to ensure that sanitation centers reopened and that public safety was maintained across Philadelphia.

“Our deputies answered the call to service and demonstrated exactly why they chose a career in law enforcement,” said Sheriff Bilal. “Their professionalism, discipline, and commitment were on full display.”

Sheriff Bilal expressed special thanks to Inspector David Fallen for leading the court-related logistics and coordination. She also recognized the efforts of the Civil Enforcement Unit, Legal Unit, Warrant Unit, Bike Unit, K-9 Team, Court Deputies, and Communications Team. Many members postponed personal time to ensure the Office remained operational.

Working closely with the Philadelphia Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, and DC33 leadership, the Sheriff’s Office ensured compliance with the injunction without any acts of aggression or escalation. Only one individual was briefly detained and released with a warning after appearing in court.

“This was not just about enforcement—it was about respect, cooperation, and service,” said Sheriff Bilal.

The Sheriff also thanked Mayor Cherelle Parker for her support and reaffirmed to the public that the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office remains committed to public service in all circumstances.
