Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office to Testify Before City Council on FY27 Budget
Philadelphia, PA — The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Rochelle Bilal, will appear before City Council to present its Fiscal Year 2027 budget request, highlighting key accomplishments, ongoing public safety efforts, and critical funding needs to support operations.

- Expanded Civil Responsibilities: The Office has taken the responsibility to serve approximately 18,000 writs annually from 400 writs, significantly increasing workload and operational demand
- Election Security Leadership: Played a critical role in ensuring safe and secure elections across multiple cycles
- Interagency Coordination: Provided vital support during protests, large-scale events, and emergency operations across city and state agencies
- Technology Modernization: Advanced implementation of systems to improve financial transparency and real-time law enforcement capabilities
- Community Engagement: Delivered free healthcare clinics and community-based services to underserved residents to learn about city services to save their homes
- Autism Certification: Became the first law enforcement agency in Pennsylvania to achieve certification in autism awareness, enhancing service to diverse populations
Our FY27 Budget Request –
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting a Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget of $19,268,056 to address critical needs, including:
- Hiring additional deputy sheriffs and professional staff to manage the increased workload, including securing the courthouses, civil operations, warrant and training unit, and other responsibilities
- Hiring additional deputy sheriffs and professional staff to address workforce shortages
- Increasing salary competitiveness to retain and recruit talent
- Investing in technology upgrades and operational efficiency
- Exploring the development of a local Sheriff’s Academy to improve recruitment and training pipelines.
